SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to connect to a server and carry out various tasks using a command line. The protocol is used by many knowledgeable users, due to the fact that the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be employed for a number of things based on the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the website hosting server allows it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for practically anything - you could install software or restart particular services like the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is used mostly with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients that permit you to employ the protocol if your computer is running a different Operating System too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a number of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

If the website hosting package deal which you’ve selected through the signup process comes with SSH access as standard, you shall be able to activate this feature with simply a click from your Hepsia CP. If you have chosen a different package, the SSH access feature can be included through the Upgrades menu and it will become available straightaway. All the details that you need to connect shall be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You could also set what password to use from the same spot and you will be able to change it whenever you want. All of the commands which are allowed are listed within the Help articles that we've prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax that you should use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you can include it via the hosting CP if needed - even just for the current month. In either case, you can activate and de-activate the function with a single mouse click from the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same location, you will see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box in which you can type in the password that you would like to use, as it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you may also change it as much as you want. The full list of the commands which can be executed inside a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and several instances. An extra function after SSH access is activated will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports such connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

If you buy a new VPS server from our company, it'll offer full root access and you will be able to connect to the server and to manage everything via an SSH console. The function is included as standard with all packages, so you won't need to activate or upgrade anything. Your web server will be set up right after you order it and the moment you receive the Welcome email with the login info, you can connect through the server’s primary IP address and start working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there will be no restrictions with regards to the commands which you can use. You shall have full root access, so you can set up and run any app that can work on a Linux machine, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the whole machine or any software running on it.
